International Cooperation

The mandate of this division is to Coordinate international cooperation on health and collaborations with development partners, NGOs and other health actors:

  • Articulation and development of declaration of intents, MOUs, and draft protocols/agreement of cooperation with countries.
  • Liaison with relevant agencies i.e. MFA, NPC, SGFs office, FMoH on bilateral cooperation on health with other countries.
  • Initiate and coordinate the drafting of bilateral agreement between Nigeria and countries
  • Coordinate the implementation of bilateral agreements and activities on health matters between countries
  • Training on the use of the database and data collection instruments in collaboration with relevant departments, programmes and agencies of the Federal Ministry of Health
  • Preparation of draft protocol implementation of agreement in respect of bilateral cooperation on health
  • Serves as secretariat for all bilateral meetings between the HMH, HMSH and PSH and ministers of health or embassy officials of any other country that may be paying an official visit.
  • Monitoring of bilateral joint venture activities in program and FMoH agencies.
  • Coordinating the quarterly bilateral affairs committee activities.
  • Coordinate side meetings on bilateral matters during WHO/UNGA and WHA.
  • Coordinate all activities of AU on health matters.
  • Serves as a secretariat for preparation of Nigeria’s delegation towards participation towards the statutory meeting
  • Mobilizing resources and technical assistance from AU/Ecowas organizations
  • Coordination of activities of development partners and agencies assisting in the health sector
  • Coordination of programmes/projects directed at achieving health SDGs in collaboration with the office of the special adviser to the president on SDGs (OSSAP), national bureau of statistics, (NBS) and other MDAs
  • Collaboration with the united nation agencies and other multilateral institutions
  • Collaboration with relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) i.e, ministry of foreign affairs, national planning commission, office of the secretary to the government of the federation and other relevant MDAs, for proper coordination of activities of UN-multilateral agencies/institution on health
  • Ensuring payment of Nigeria’s financial obligations to multilateral organizations on health and counterpart fund
  • Ensuring Nigeria’s compliance to international health declaration and resolutions
  • Coordination of participation of the federal ministry of health (Departments, programmes and agencies) in the statutory international health and health related meetings such as world health assembly (WHA), WHO regional committee for Africa, UNGA, commonwealth, etc.
  • Keeping a database and dissemination of declaration and resolutions relating to statutory multilateral meetings on health
  • Ensuring Nigeria’s compliance to international health declaration and resolutions
  • Coordination of participation of the federal ministry of health (Departments, programmes and agencies) in the statutory international health and health related meetings such as world health assembly (WHA), WHO regional committee for Africa, UNGA, commonwealth, etc.
  • Keeping database and dissemination of declaration and resolutions relating to statutory multilateral meetings on health
  • Development setting and reviewing of guidelines and procedures for the registration of NGOs
  • Identify challenges of NGOs in the health sector and proffer solutions
  • Registration of NGOs active in the health sector
  • Monitoring and reporting on the activities of health NGOs in the country
  • Collation and dissemination of health NGOs M&E reports
  • Mobilization of resources for NGOs working in the health sector

 Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu
Director, Health Planning, Research & Statistics

 

Dr. Chris Isokpunwu is a distinguished medical practitioner and public health specialist with over 25 years of dedicated service to the Nigerian healthcare system. He currently serves as the Director of the Department of Health Planning Research and Statistics within the Federal Ministry of Health, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare in Nigeria.

Dr. Isokpunwu’s illustrious career has seen him take on key leadership positions in the field of public health. Prior to his current role, he served as the Senior Technical Assistant to Nigeria’s Minister of Health, where his expertise and strategic insights greatly contributed to the development and execution of critical healthcare policies and initiatives.

A staunch advocate for the strategic use of data for decision-making, Dr. Isokpunwu brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role. His vision is centered on leveraging data-driven solutions to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Nigerian healthcare system.
